Eligibility

Senior/Disability Eligibility

To live in state assisted elderly/disabled public housing, you must be at least 60 years old. If you are a person under 60 with a disability, you must meet certain criteria to be eligible for state housing for disabled persons.

You must complete an application and then be placed on a wait list that is kept by the authority. When your name reaches the top of the wait list, the authority will contact you. Priority is given to a qualified emergency (ask for details).

Preference is given to a Fairhaven veteran, spouse of a veteran, a Fairhaven resident or an employee who works in Fairhaven.

  • 1 person – $54,450
  • 2 persons – $62,200

  • How Can One Apply?
    Applications can be picked up at our office at 275 Main Street, Fairhaven from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. You can also download an application from the DHCD website.
  • Who Gets Priority/Preference?
    Our categories are as follows; Emergency Local, Emergency Non Local, Local Veteran, Local Resident or Employee of Fairhaven, Non Resident.
  • How Do I Check Where I Am On The List?
    Requests must be send in writing and include your name, control number and date of birth.
  • How Will My Rent Be Determined?
    Rent will be based on 30% of your adjusted monthly income. Family units will be based on 27% of their adjusted monthly income.
  • What if I have to give up the property?
    A 30 day written notice to vacate is required.
